One 14-year-old boy was found dead just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She added that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest received testimony from school staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students talking that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his family said they did not receive that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was freed while inquiries proceeded."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or failures of any agency led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to discern his intent."
