Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of entertaining independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is actually a dung attempting to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a one button to leap. In 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and access a store to buy skins for your poop character.

Time your movements precisely, since one mistake forces starting over. Leap off bubbles to propel the poop to new heights, traverse disappearing ledges, and touch buttons to reveal hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS for buying challenging game content in which things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the demo boasts eye-catching level designs and a killer music score. Its minimalist visual style with moving abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to recall other games where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, such as winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is available at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on PC on November 19.
